There’s an increasing number of these power-obsessed megalomaniacs in Washington. And they all seem to be “liberal” Democrats…
One of my goals in life is to run for U.S. Congress. For the last ten years or so, I have dreamed of representing my community in D.C., and my passion for the legislative branch has definitely intensified after I met POP founder and former Georgia Congressional Candidate Nicole Rodden.
As an aspiring U.S. Representative myself, I think it would be a good time to point out what not to do after being granted this enormous responsibility of service by the American people. You would think that “abuse of power” would be at the top of the list of no-no’s, especially given that the current House Leadership actually impeached a president over this exact charge. However, it appears that our esteemed House Democrats do not hold themselves to the same standard to which they hold their political opponents – go figure. We are sadly living through what Ben Shapiro calls an “authoritarian moment.” Now that the regressive left has full control of Congress, the presidency, and all of America’s cultural institutions they are trying to do everything they can to quash any and every form of dissent, disagreement, and even the most minor criticism of their regime.
Last Tuesday, Reps. Anna Eshoo and Jerry McNerney (both D-CA) penned a letter addressed directly to AT&T CEO John Stankey pressuring him to take the draconian effort to remove all non-left-wing news stations from all of the three T.V. providers his company owns. Yes, you heard me right –silencing conservatives on social media is not enough for these members of Congress. They want to take the unprecedented move to completely de-platform essentially all broadcast media that is not Democratic Party-propaganda. The letter, which is currently available in its entirety on both Eshoo and McNerney’s official Congressional websites, baselessly accuses Fox News, Newsmax, and OANN of “misinformation, disinformation, conspiracy theories, and lies,” which I guess is the authoritarian left’s version of “lions, tigers, and bears, oh my.” It ends with seven open-ended “questions” which are worded in a way aimed at shaming Stankey and his corporate board into obeying the two Congressmen and the leftist mob behind them.
This two-page nastygram essentially hinges on the completely preposterous claim that these channels, by merely reporting on the apparent irregularities of the 2020 Presidential Election, and by just giving a platform to the millions of people who believed there was widespread voter fraud, somehow contributed to the horrific siege on our nation’s Capitol Building on January 6. This argument which we are hearing ad nauseum from the left is a textbook example of the post hoc fallacy or “if X happened and then Y happened, then X must have caused Y.” This is literally the first logical fallacy students are taught to avoid in every public speaking or rhetoric class. It is not surprising that the extremely well-educated hard-left who, despite knowing this (McNerney for example has a Ph.D.), continue to use it to pass their agenda, as logic takes a backseat to emotion and “pulling at the heartstrings” in their quest to push their anti-factual radical agenda on the American public. They don’t care that what they’re saying doesn’t make sense – as long as it keeps them in power.
Although it’s expected that the decisively right-of-center Newsmax and OANN are being targeted by our “liberal” elite, it’s ludicrous that Eshoo and McNerney are taking aim at Fox News, a channel many conservatives consider to be somewhat centrist, if not center-left. This goes to show that to the ascendant authoritarian left, any form of dissent, no matter how mainstream, is unacceptable.
The truth is that the Congressmen are two relatively obscure and usually low-profile backbenchers from reliably Democratic districts in California, of all places. They are also supposed to represent the “moderate” faction of the party from which President Biden supposedly hails. This is simply a testament to how radical the Democratic Party has become since even their moderate members are now trying to completely censor all political opposition. A fact worth pointing out about Rep. McNerney, in particular, is that he is one of the founders of the so-called Congressional Freethought Caucus, a group of more than a dozen Democrats who lobby for secular causes and against religious freedom. This is woefully ironic because by pressuring tech giants to suppress viewpoints he doesn’t like, he is now openly working to subvert actual freethought and open debate.
My favorite response to the pathetic letter has to be from Congresswoman Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (R-WA). She rightfully blasted her two colleagues for their “direct attack” on the First Amendment and their opposition to the longstanding American values of “free speech and a free independent press.” She also beautifully suggested that we might as well look into censoring CNN and MSNBC for spreading “Russian collusion” conspiracy theories and actual misinformation about Governor Andrew Cuomo’s disastrous policies that led to the deaths of at least 13,000 elderly New Yorkers. Yes, this was fully meant as sarcasm as, unlike the left who has been looking for an excuse to censor conservative thought for years, we right-wingers almost unanimously are in favor of adults being able to be exposed to all sides of every argument and make informed decisions for themselves.
The Democratic Party is descending into full-on totalitarianism mode and it’s scary watching it all unfold. The left wants to make 2021 the year of discrediting the entire right and other members of Congress are joining in on the “fun.” Another Democratic backbencher from California, Rep. Sara Jacobs, ironically advocated the formation of a “truth commission,” something that sounds like it comes straight out of the pages of Orwell. If any of these members of Congress somehow got their way, it would be nothing more than a blatant exercise of tyranny. The Founding Fathers are rolling in their graves. What today’s powerful Democrats are attempting to do is not something that should never happen in a free country. Unless constitutional conservatives, libertarians, moderates, and true liberals stand up in opposition to the assault on our civil liberties, I’m afraid the America I grew up knowing might be gone forever.
